Please VOTE for Sew Gracious

Do you know about Hawthorne Threads?  If you don't and you love fabric, you should!  I first discovered Hawthorne Threads on Etsy.  Now they have their own website and it is wonderful!  Their tagline has always been "two love birds who love fabric".  Well, I love fabric too so I knew they were perfect for me!   HT is owned by Lindsay  and Charlie . . a sweet couple who do love fabric.  They are dedicated to their business too.  They have a great blog, send regular newsletter updates and hit Quilt Market wide open!  If you don't know, Quilt Market is where is the fabric is released.  It's like a giant mall for fabric shops.  Good stuff!

Hawthorne Threads is currently hosting a contest, featuring items made with the popular Tip Top Elephant fabric by Diawabo.   They have been kind enough to include 2 Sew Gracious items in the contest.  As you know,  many times to win a contest you need to have votes from the public, your friends and fans.  It works for American Idol so I'm ok with it too.

The prize is a $25 gift certificate from Hawthorne Threads.  As one who loves fabric, nothing is better than free fabric; so I'd love to win.  More than that, winning would bring lots of great publicity to Sew Gracious.   Hawthorne is a top rated website and fabric company.  They will spread the word about the winner.  That would be a good thing for Sew Gracious. ;)

VOTE : Today is Election Day

The mid-term elections are today.  Voting is a priviledge and people have shed blood to protect that priviledge.  Our founding fathers came here to escape an overbearing goverment.  They came here to avoid religious persecution and taxation without representation so they could establish a government that was for the people, by the people.  They were ruled by a monarch; one who infiltrated every aspect of their lives.  They had no freedom.  They came here, fought many bloody battles, but in the end the people prevailed.

As I look at our country today, I wonder what our founding fathers would say if they were here today.  They would probably be very sad; feeling that their efforts were in vain.  They would see a government that is infiltrating every aspect of our lives.  They would see an insane amount of taxes, earmarks and goverment waste.  They would see career politicians who are more interested in building their own wealth rather creating an political/economic environment where their constituents have an opportunity to flourish.  The founding fathers would see the highest leaders in that land pushing through policies that the people do not support.  I believe the founding fathers would be so disappointed in the state of affairs in 2010.

The good news is that today is the first step toward REAL change.  It's an opportunity for the people to beginning taking back OUR government.  It is the chance to make our voices heard and heard loudly; in Washington and locally.

I have heard some people say that they like neither candidate for an office so they just won't vote at all because they don't want to support "the lesser of two evils".   By not voting at all, they are only serving "the greater of two evils".

Remember to vote today.  Our country, our economy, our future, our children are depending on your effort.

Economic concerns are high on the priority list right now, but we also have to consider foreign policy, energy, health care and so many other important aspects of life. We live in the best country in the world, without a doubt. It's not perfect, but we enjoy freedoms that many before us have fought for bravely and with dignity. It is because of the sacrifice of those who have gone before that we have the right, the privilege, the honor and the responsibility to vote today. Let us honor those who have made this country free by exercising our right to vote today. Your future depends on it.
