Old School Jack
If you've read my blog for the past few years, you know that our family always carves a pumpkin or 2. It's never anything elaborate like some you see on TV or in magazines, but it's good family time anyway. In the past, I've gotten free templates from the web or drawn out my own designs for carving.
This year, I decided to completely wing it. No pattern, no transfer; strictly free-hand. Old School Jack is the result. He turned out pretty cute, didn't he? Did you notice . . . I didn't even have to carve a nose thanks to the natural little "dimple" on our gourd this year.

The day for costumes & candy; pumpkins & hayrides. You've probably carved your pumpkin by now, but I wanted to share some pictures from our Pumpkin Carving Day.

Pumpkin Carving 2007
It's Pumpkin Carving time! The weather was beautiful last week so we enjoyed the crisp air & change of seasons by carving our pumpkin. In the past we've done your basic Jack O' Lantern, a kitty of our own design & other various motifs. This year we wanted to find a cute template for something a little different, so we visited www.pumpkinmasters.com to find this cute freebie called Starry Night.

Pumpkin Carving Day
Yesterday was Pumpkin Carving Day at our house. Now while I am pretty handy with a sewing machine, I am not a master pumpkin carver. I've seen all the beautiful "decorator pumpkins" on TV and in magazines. How I WISH I could do that, but alas...pumpkins are one medium in which I stick with the basics. :-)

This year I did venture out a bit from the traditional triangle shaped eyes & nose with the snaggle tooth mouth. I opted for cresent moon eyes and a big wide grin. I like this year's pumpkin although the kitty we did a few years back is my all-time favorite. Now we have another kind of kitty pumpkin, which I always enjoy displaying. The arms, legs, face & ears are used each year to decorate a pumpkin....a la Mr. Potato Head. We have Mr. Kitty Pumpkin! Here is our entire Pumpkin Family for 2006.
